Fishing Lures Saltwater
recommend a saltwater lure for my area?

i posted a similar question, but forgot to mention where i was and what fish live around here so here we go

im in pompano beach, florida. pompano fish live in our waters. the areas i fish are intercoastal/wide channels(hilsboro inlet is one place i fish) with shallower waters to the side but still a good depth the water is a tea color(the only thing i can think of to describe it). snapper(mangrove, yellow, red), barracuda, red fish, jack and the occasional flounder have been seen in my fishing spots i fish from land not boat

im sorta new to saltwater lure fishing ive been using real bait most of my life so im kinda clueless. i have seen tube's used to catch cuda before tho

It's been a while since I hit the Hilsboro inlet. There are some big Tarpon and Snook out there....now I gotta plan a trip just because you brought up the question. ; )
Anyways, Keeping things simple is true. Pompano love sand fleas, small crabs and shrimp. If you want to target them then you will want to get the Gulp alive shrimp lures or go with D.O.A. shrimp lures. Either will work on 'em. Just remember to use a 2-3 foot section of Fluorocarbon leader tied to your main line. No swivels!
If you fish the Hilsboro go with a 1-2 ounce jig in white with a red streamer. You'll notice it, it has a long red "tail" section attached to it. Tip it with a shrimp and cast it out. Let it sink for a count of ten and work it back slow in a jigging motion. If I remember right, night time at the Hilsboro was the best time around the shrimp run. Man, it get's insane out there with the Tarpon.
As for catching Barracudas, I love using top water lures. Tubes are cool but takes too much work. A top water lure in mullet color or just about any color really will do good. Make a long cast, twitch it back erratic , walk the dog or twitch and sit will all do as far as retrieves go. The strikes are explosive and the fight is fast. If you plan on keeping one, keep only those under 5 pounds, they are pretty good to eat. Hope to have helped you out a bit.~good luck catchin'.
